ENMary Sue is a term used on the Internet to describe the female protagonist of a novel, fan fiction, or other work with a strong sense of self-indulgence. Source: The term 'Mary Sue' comes from a parody novel 'A Trekkie's Tale' created and published by Paula Smith in the second issue of her fan magazine 'Menagerie' in 1973. The author set the protagonist of the novel as Lieutenant Mary Sue ('the youngest lieutenant in the fleet - only fifteen and a half years old'), thereby satirizing the unrealistic and perfect characters with childish teenage fantasies in Star Trek fan fiction.
